A Practical Voice for Ward 8
I'm running to bring practical, accountable leadership to Greater Sudbury Council — with real solutions that improve our community.
With more than 35 years of municipal public service as a career firefighter, I have developed a strong understanding of how municipalities operate through extensive collaboration with internal and external stakeholders across Greater Sudbury. This allowed me to gain firsthand insight into the needs of our community.
Through my role as a board member for local charities and my involvement in fundraising initiatives with community organizations, I am proud to support and give back to our community.
Like many residents, I've seen the impact of rising costs, aging infrastructure, and decisions that don't always reflect local priorities. I want to change that.
This community is home. I'm running because residents deserve practical leadership who listens, communicates openly, and focuses on real solutions that improve our community. Ward 8 is filled with hardworking families, seniors, local businesses, and residents who want to feel heard and respected.
I am a lifelong resident of Sudbury. I have lived in New Sudbury, Lively, South End and Minnow Lake.
In my 35-year career as a firefighter, I have worked at every station in the former city of Sudbury area. I have also worked as a training officer and fire inspector. In my last 10 years as Platoon Chief, I was the shift supervisor for the entire Greater City of Sudbury.
I am committed to being present in the community, accessible, and focused on practical solutions.
Hearing residents' concerns before making decisions that affect their lives.
Building practical, data-driven plans that deliver real results for our community.
Following through on commitments with accountability and transparency.
Being present, responsive, and accountable to the people of Ward 8.
My priorities reflect the everyday realities and concerns of the people who live here. I have built a campaign that reflects the voices and priorities of the community.
Too many roads, sidewalks, and drainage systems need attention.
Tax dollars must be used wisely.
Willing to meet with community groups to discuss issues in Ward 8 — residents must be heard early, not after decisions are made.
Everyone deserves safe, stable and attainable housing.
35 years of service — and still showing up.
From fighting fires to fighting for better infrastructure — George has spent his life serving Sudbury. As a career firefighter, board member for local charities, and volunteer fundraiser, he's proven his commitment to this community time and again. He'll bring that same dedication to City Hall as your Ward 8 Councillor.
Stay up to date with George's campaign and the issues that matter in Ward 8.
Nice to see the Franco-Ontarian flag along with the Canadian and Ontario flags flying high at City Hall. Our Franco-Ontarian community is a vital part of Greater Sudbury, and seeing their flag displayed proudly alongside our national and provincial flags is a wonderful reminder of the cultural richness that makes our city special.
On September 5th I had the pleasure to go out with Meals on Wheels in Minnow Lake and Ward 8 and deliver some great meals prepared for some of our residents. My driver for the day, Bernie, explained to me how their system works and the service they provide to our community.
Thank you to all the staff and volunteers that take time out of their day to provide this very important service. Please keep up the great work you do every day.
Last week I had the chance to see City Medicine at the Refettorio on Durham — it was outstanding. If you have lost someone dear to mental health or addiction, take the time to see this before it's over. It is very moving — bring Kleenex!
Great performance by all. Thank you.
Today I had the opportunity to hear from Eric Delparte, VP of the USW, and Sean Staddon, the WSIB representative, at the USW offices — and to sign their shovel, committing to their occupational disease action project.
I was quite moved — my father had lung cancer at a young age and was employed at INCO. This is an absolute no-brainer for me, and I'm very happy to throw my support behind this preventable occupational disease project.
Thank you, Eric and Sean — keep up the great work you do every day for your members and our community.
Today I had the opportunity to hear from Shannon Restoule, President & CEO of Greater Sudbury Utilities, and Claude Sharma, Director of Marketing and Media. Their presentation on what GSU has done — and continues to contribute to — our community was truly insightful.
What stood out to me most was the value GSU delivers beyond the balance sheet. Through its group of companies — Greater Sudbury Hydro, agilis networks, @home energy, and ConverGen — GSU touches the daily lives of residents and businesses across our city: keeping the lights on, connecting homes and businesses to high-speed internet, and helping households manage their energy use.
As a municipally-owned utility, GSU's success is our community's success, and its annual report theme — "Powering Growth, Delivering Value" — says it all. Supporting strong, accountable public institutions like GSU is exactly the kind of practical leadership I'll bring to Ward 8 council.
Thank you to Shannon Restoule and Claude Sharma for a great session, and to the whole GSU team for the work they do every day for Greater Sudbury.

National Public Works Week is a time to recognize the men and women who keep our city running — from maintaining our roads and sidewalks to ensuring our water is clean and our parks are safe. As someone who spent 35 years in municipal public service as a career firefighter, I've seen firsthand the dedication and hard work that goes into serving our community every single day.
Public works professionals are the backbone of our city. They fill potholes, clear snow, maintain our water and sewer systems, and respond to emergencies. Their work often goes unnoticed until something goes wrong — but when it functions well, it's because of their commitment and expertise.
One of my top priorities for Ward 8 is Stronger Local Infrastructure. I've seen the impact of aging roads, sidewalks, and drainage systems across our ward. These photos show some of the equipment and crews that make a difference in our community every day. I'm committed to ensuring they have the resources and support they need to keep Sudbury moving forward.
If you see a public works crew out in your neighbourhood this week, take a moment to thank them. They deserve it.
Another day, another festival. How are you supposed to keep your waistline in check? Once again the food was fabulous — did I mention that I brought some baklava home? Sinfully good.
Thank you to the Hellenic Centre for a wonderful Greek Festival. Events like these bring our community together and showcase the incredible diversity and culture we have here in Greater Sudbury. I had a great time connecting with residents, enjoying the live music, and — yes — sampling the incredible food.
From the souvlaki to the baklava, everything was amazing. If you missed it, mark your calendar for next year — you won't regret it!
I stopped at the Ukrainian Centre today to pick up some cabbage rolls and pyrohy — one of my favorite dishes — and they did not disappoint, of course. They were awesome.
Thank you to all that were involved in making them, well worth the wait! It's wonderful to see community organizations like the Ukrainian Centre keeping traditions alive and bringing people together through food and culture.
